Feeling burned out and have no idea how to implement self care? Below you can find 4 simple self care ideas to implement in your daily routine.
As women and moms we are always so busy with practically everything under the sun, cooking breakfast, getting the kids ready for school, getting ready for work, thinking of what to make for dinner, cleaning, doing loads and loads of laundry (urgh always so much laundry !!!!!!)
We’re always busy with something right? and it’s a constant cycle of the same tasks over and over, which often results in us feeling burnt out and fatigued.
I remember there were days when I would be folding laundry or loading the dishwasher and all of a sudden I would feel so overwhelmed because of how tired and burnt out I was feeling, as many of you might also feel like. I just could not understand where these feelings were coming from.
I soon realised that I needed to make changes in the way that I was doing things, start to connect with my old self again and do things that made me feel good. I made the decision to be more aware of having more “me time” and that if I’m feeling my best self then I’ll be a better mom and wife.
So I started to write down things that I use to do that I enjoyed and established a self care regimen.
Below you can find tips on what can be included in a self care regimen and how you can implement it. I know that this might not apply to all women or moms but it has helped me to be a better version of myself.
Treat Yourself
A good treat yourself session can be anything you want it to be. Whether it be getting your nails done, doing your hair, skin care routine or going for a facial. It can be anything you enjoy doing.
It doesn’t have to be you going out to pamper yourself, it can be done at home depending what works for you and your household.
Sometimes getting out of the house is something we just need to do, right mamma’s ?
Personally I love having clean, fresh smelling hair. There’s nothing like being in the shower and getting a good hair scrub. So I make it a point to do a complete hair care routine from shampoo, mask and conditioning every week.
My husband also discovered this massage machine on amazon, it’s called the Max Shiatsu neck shoulder electric back massage with heat deep kneading tissue for muscle pain relief and relaxation, which has been a life saver.
It feels as if you are getting a massage from the spa but in the comfort of your home.
Although I still love going to the spa and being in that relaxing atmosphere (not possible right now because of COVID) this machine allows you to get a massage while you read a book or listen to music. I’ve incorporated this during my pamper sessions as well. Trust me guys you need this.
Health is Wealth
This has been a game changer for me and has helped me with not only my physical wellness but my mental wellness too. I realised that doing long workouts is not necessary at all to get your heart rate pumping and feeling great.
30 to 40 minutes is all you need. I’ve been dedicating only that amount of time to my workouts consistently and it has been sufficient.
After a workout I feel my best, my mood is so positive, I feel super strong, my mind is clear and my energy levels are up so that I can tackle my daily tasks and be a good mama.
Soul Food
This category can be in the form of reading a book, listening to music or audio books or simply just journaling but for me this is my time to have devotion, praying, having a conversation and worshiping.
Spending time with God is so vital for me and a huge part of growing as an individual. I’m able to vent to Him with whatever is happening in my life and what I’m feeling.
The beauty of having a relationship with Jesus is that I can go to Him with whatever I want and surrender it to Him. It’s so freeing and liberating.
The same with worshiping, I love listening to worship music because it builds up my faith and makes me feel like I’m able to move mountains and accomplish anything in life.
A walk in nature or the forest can be so impactful and helpful for your spiritual health because that’s the time you can disconnect from the chaos, allowing your soul to become quiet and peaceful.
Good Nutrition
I generally eat a healthy diet but a few months ago I wasn’t eating the way I normally did. I was grabbing anything around me to eat since I thought I was too busy to prepare a healthy meal especially at breakfast and at lunch time.
I was always so tired, fatigued, constantly in this daze and I was picking up weight which I couldn’t figure out why. In my mind I was eating perfectly normal.
Soon I realised that I needed to change my priorities during the day and make time to feed myself with a well balanced meal so that I can have sufficient energy to get through the day.
Since then I’ve made a few changes recently and have been following a 1:1 diet. So it’s one good carb, one protein and one fat.
Eating a good, well balanced diet and keeping hydrated is so essential for keeping up with the energy and nutrients I need to do daily tasks and run after my little one.
Finding a good diet whether it’s keto, paleo, grain free is paramount to fit into your lifestyle for it to work and be consistent.
Don’t get me wrong I love to have my chocolate, so indulging in your favorite ice cream or chocolate bar is no crime, so go ahead and have it, just as long as you don’t eat the whole tub of ice cream. Moderation is key.
Conclusion
I know, I know there are some moms out there and some women that will say “but I don’t have time.” and my response to them is “I used to say the same thing.”
Self care doesn’t have to take up your whole day or you don’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on it.
The point is for you to take the time out to spend with yourself, to connect with yourself so that you can reflect and identify the things that you need to change and to acknowledge that you’re doing a FANTASTIC JOB.
So one tip I can give you is to schedule a time during the day or the week in your calendar that’s just dedicated to you.
Tell your spouse or whoever will be watching the kids to schedule it in their calendars so that they are aware that you will be unavailable for that time.
It took me a long time to get to this point, where I make myself a priority as well and stop letting “mom guilt” get the better of me.
Leave me a comment in the comments section and let me know whether you have a self care regimen and what types of things you do.
This is absolutely vital, but not always possible. But making yourself a priority is definitely key.
It’s not easy to implement for me at the moment, but I do understand the importance of having time to recharge.
I am involving the kids with my Health is wealth regimen. I would work out and they would join me. For me it’s kinda a win win.
